BECOMING A TEACHER.
My dream becomes reality! I'm going to be a teacher!
In the summer of 2016, I started at Metropolitan Unversity College. My main subject is English, but I do not go to the normal teacher's way. I'm accepted at the newly established direction ITEP which stands for 'International Teachers Education Program'. You can read much more about ITEP here.
Throughout my education, I will update my portfolio with didactic thoughts, teaching material, reflections and much more which will, in the end, become the foundation for my own personal teachers-profile. The portfolio will mainly be in English, but due to some requirements from Metropolitan Unversity College, some parts will be written in Danish.
As a part of my education, I will have internships, both in Denmark and abroad. These internships will be explained, discussed, compared and reflected upon as well in this portfolio.
Last but not least, I will spend a semester at a university abroad to widen my knowledge about teaching in different parts of the globe.
Why is teaching my dream?
Back in 2007, I found myself in a situation where I helped a friend with her exam. During this process, I found a huge satisfaction in teaching and giving knowledge to another person. In my work-life after this has always been with an eye on, who can I give on knowledge to my coworkers?
During my last education at KBHSyd, I had a lot of teachers, who used me as a substitute teacher during classes and pushed me in the direction og becoming a teacher. My fellow students gave me a lot of confidence, in the relation to this is your call.
Why English?
So why English? When I look at a student, I do not only see a Dane but a world citizen. So when you are a world citizen you need to be able to communicate with people from around the globe. And that's why English is so important! So to help students to become as fit as possible to enter the globalized world, I chose to become an English teacher.
Why ITEP?
ITEP - International Teachers Education Program. The word 'Internation' is why. As I mentioned before, we are living in a globalized world. So to make myself as fit as possible to help students, I too have to be able to understand the world as a whole. If my knowledge about education, cultures etc. stops with my own former education, I do not have the tools to compare - Where are we right now, and where are we going to be in the future. ITEP gives competences, that will help me to be a better teacher for my students in the future.
